Contest!

My 3 year blogiversary is the 27th of this month - and as promised I'm holding a contest. Submit a comment to this post answering 1 of the following (or all if you like!):

  1. Favorite knitting tutorial/pattern, with link.
  2. Favorite book - and for those Harry Potter fans, what are your plans when the final book comes out?
  3. Favorite way to unwind after a stressful day.
  4. Favorite vacation memory
What's the prize? As you may have read, my friend recently sent me the perfect teapot. So perfect, I'd already bought it for myself! So I'm offering up the duplicate:

I'll use a random number generator to choose 3 winners - one will receive this teapot and 2 others will receive yarn-related goodness. And because Blogger doesn't give me your email address (unless you've set it up to make it public), please either leave me your address or email it to me so I can get in touch with you! Contest ends July 27th, noon, PST.

Spread the word - if someone mentions they were referred by you you'll get another entry!

1. It's not exactly a pattern, but I think that my favourite book of patterns is Last Minute Knitted Gifts.

2. This is a tough one. I haven't really read literature for the sake of it in a while... everything I read is for my course work right now. But some of those make for interesting reads too. The Lord of the Rings series and childhood favourites Charlotte's Web and Harriot the Spy are ones that I go back to again and again for "pleasure" reading though.

3. Knitting and watching a good tv show or movie with the bf, along with a glass of sangria.

4. Zamora, Spain with my sweetie. A quiet, off the tourist track medieval town. The perfect way to end my 8 month long stint alone in EspaƱa.

2. I LOVE Harry Potter! For HP 7 I will be attending the B&N midnight party (sporting my HP handknit headband with matching bookscarf bookmark - in Gryfindor colors). I'll get my book at midnight. Now, my normal practice was that from midnight until I finished I, read (no sleep!). When I got married, my husband and I started a new thing where we share a book (gasp!) and we take turns reading 3 chapters at a time. This time, we'll have to do something different because we're traveling to NYC Saturday morning for a vacation with my family. We'll definitely be reading out loud for the 3 hours up there - after that it's a little up in the air.

Long post, Gradschoolknitter sent me and you can find my e-mail in my profile through blogger!

Happy Blogiversary! I want to leave my comments, but I'll pass on the entry for the teapot. I don't want tea; I just want water. =)

1. Favorite unused knitting pattern is in one of those Stitch n Bitch books (don't recall which) for the Joey Ramone doll. Favorite used knitting pattern: back in the days I used to knit occasionally, I always changed them around. I never once used the exact pattern (especially after the "nipple hat" incident).

2. Lots of favs, but I just read and enjoyed The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver.

3. Two words: Hannah Montana.

4. Getting off the plane from Boston in Puerto Rico last February and seeing no snow.

My favorite vacation memory:
My mother-in-law passed away suddenly many years ago. My husband and I needed to get away and went to Montauk, Long Island in the fall after the tourist season. There was only one motel open and there was hardly anyone around. It was cool and rainy and we walked and walked on the beach, just letting the sound of the waves take our minds off of everything. It felt like we were the only people in the world.
It was one of the most restful, peaceful vacations we ever had, despite the reason we needed it.

I'm not sure I have a favorite knitting pattern or tutorial yet. Too new a knitter I guess ;)

Also not sure I have a favorite book - although I've read Bridget Jones' Diary three times (must be a guilty pleasure book?), and I adore the images that Jack Kerouac conjures in On the Road.

I like a cold beer (1554, which is a black ale, is one of my faves) on a stressful day (and perhaps knitting and tv too)!

My favorite vacation memory is probably hiking in Chaco Canyon - it was a totally crazy trip - we were exhausted when we got back - but it was wonderful to see all the pueblos and rock art!

Favorite book: Bridge to Terabithia (I read this sooo many times as a kid, and again as an adult)

Favorite unwind: Knitting -- was there any doubt??

Favorite vacation memory: taking my husband on a surprise 30th birthday weekend in Maine.

1. One of my favorites is the Cashmere Booties from Erika Knight's Simple Knits for Cherished Babies. It's a go-to baby item for me. So quick and so cute! http://www.amazon.com/Simple-Knits-Cherished-Babies-Knight/dp/1855859262
2. I started reading Pride & Prejudice again. Can't go wrong there.
3. A nice dinner (that I don't have to cook) and a glass of wine.
4. I can't think of a very favorite. My last little vacation was spent in Sedona, hiking amongst the red rocks- it was breathtaking!
