When my step-son committed suicide and we spent a week cleaning up his apartment, etc., I began to knit a shawl--a red lace weight mohair landscape shawl. The rhythm of the easy knitting was reassuring and the red was a life-affirming color. Whenever I wear the shawl I think of David, I think of it as "his" shawl.
